After allegations that the White House had authorised targeted strikes against Crimea, a Russian propagandist said on state television that the United States had declared war on Russia.

Russian journalist Igor Korotchenko claimed the United States had crossed a line by supporting the attacks in a video posted to Twitter on Saturday by the account TheKremlinYap.

Following up on an earlier statement made by Victoria Nuland, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Korotchenko made his remarks.

Reuters quotes Nuland as saying that Washington has urged for the demilitarisation of the peninsula and supports Ukrainian attacks on military targets there. In 2014, Russia forcibly took Crimea from Ukraine.

Korotchenko attacked the United States in the video, which was translated by TheKremlinYap, an account that tracks Kremlin propaganda.

"The U.S. actually proclaimed today that it was going to war with Russia after crossing every conceivable and inconceivable red line," he said.

"I believe that this is the correct way to understand Nuland's statement. Halftones are not required. The United States is Russia's military foe and antagonist.
