Tom Brady's father claimed on Wednesday that he was aware of his plans well in advance of his decision to retire "for good" after finishing his third season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After posting an emotional beachside video announcing his retirement to his fans and following, Tom Brady Sr., the NFL star who won seven Super Bowl victories during his 23-year career in the game, spoke with the Boston Globe.

· We're not at all surprised, he said to the outlet. "Out of his 45 years, he has played football for 32 of them, fulfilling his lifelong desire. It's been a fantastic journey. He is pretty confident in his choice. It's past due."

In spite of his belief that the former quarterback will remain in South Florida to be closer to the children he co-parents with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen, Brady Sr. said he would have preferred for his son to visit San Francisco.
