As a result of the third-term politician's months-long relationship with a former member of his office staff, a story in the Toronto Star has reported that John Tory is resigning as mayor of Toronto.

According to his lawyer Peter A. Downward, Torrey, 68, "established a relationship with a staffer in his office" during the pandemic.

"I am very sorry, and I apologise to the people of Toronto, and to all those who have been wounded by my conduct," Tory stated during his press conference.

"I recognize that it was a serious error of judgment on my part to allow this relationship to develop."

"While leaving a career I adore in a city I adore much more makes me sad, it is preferable for me to devote my time to work that benefits these significant individuals. Relationships need to be fixed."

In order to facilitate a smooth transition, Torrey said he will work closely with numerous officials from the municipal administration, including the city manager, city clerk, and deputy mayor.

The people I've let down the most are my wife Barb and my family, who I apologise to above all things, he stated. The connection, according to Torrey, started during the COVID-19 outbreak and "terminated earlier this year by mutual decision."

I really feel that the best course of action is to totally dedicate myself to the work required to mend even these most crucial (family) ties, Torrey said.
