Student Honor Santiago recalled, "They were asking people if they wanted watermelon and I remember being confused because it wasn't in season.

When Santiago arrived home, he immediately told his mother. The message it allegedly conveys to the school's black kids bothered them.

The menu was altered without the school's knowledge, according to the principal, and the items picked "reinforce negative preconceptions about the African-American community."
